Google releases web.dev: Let’s build the future of the web

Recently, Google released the web.dev Beta version, which is estimated to be a new project that Web developers love. The homepage shows that the project’s functionality is to help developers learn and apply the modern features of the Web to their sites and applications through actionable guidance and analysis.

The main body of the project is divided into two parts: Learn and Measure. In the Learn section, different tutorials guide developers to explore a systematic Web development learning path and learn about building a modern Web. The Measure section is used to monitor applications, check application performance and get detailed instructions on how to improve.

Google developer Rob Dodson gave a general introduction to the current project progress. He pointed out that there are still some problems with web.dev, including:
  • Frequent Error: 500s from the Lighthouse API. This is caused by a combination of lots of folks hitting the service, and some timeout issues on slower sites.
  • Sites that use HTTP/2 being reported as not using HTTP/2
  • PWAs being reported as not being PWAs (i.e. “Missing service worker”)
  • Only running audits against the HTTPS version of a URL
  • Frequent profile sign-outs
