Google Chrome is continuing to reduce memory usage through Tab Freeze feature

As early as 2015, Google Chrome has begun to add tab freezes, designed to automatically freeze those background tabs to save memory resources. The frozen tag does not close until the user re-clicks on the tab and then resumes, although it will reload but will not always use memory in the background. Now that the Google Chrome Canary continues to improve the Tab Freeze feature, this time add multiple options to set the time when the tabs are automatically frozen and restored.

Trigger this feature via chrome://flags/#proactive-tab-freeze flag.

The Tab Freeze options provided are as follows:

1. Enable: When enabled, it means to use the new Tab freeze mechanism. By default, if the tab is not operated for 5 minutes, it means it is inactive and will be frozen.

2. Enabled Freeze – No Unfreeze: If the user selects this option, all inactive tabs will be frozen and will not be automatically activated if they are not operated for 5 minutes.

3. Enable – Unfreeze 10 seconds every 15 minutes: Select this option to freeze the inactive tabs for 10 seconds every 15 minutes, and freeze again if there is no action.

4. Disable: If you have more memory and you don’t have more tabs open every time you use the browser, you can choose not to enable the freeze function.
