Chrome 85 releases: 10% faster page loads

Google today released the latest stable version of Chrome 85. This version increases the page loading speed by 10%, brings many tab page improvements, and provides a series of developer functions. You can directly use the Chrome built-in update program to upgrade or download from the  Chrome official website.

Page loading speed increased

Chrome 85 brings Profile Guided Optimization (PGO), which is a compiler optimization technique that makes the most performance-critical parts of the code run faster. The actual usage scenarios used by PGO match the workflow of Chrome users, so the most common tasks will be prioritized and faster. It is suitable for Mac and Windows.

Tests show that after the introduction of PGO, the Chrome page loading speed has increased by an average of 10%, and when the CPU is running many tabs or programs at the same time, the speed has been even greater.

Tab grouping and folding

Tab groups can help visually distinguish topic or task tabs, and even the priority of tabs. You can collapse and expand to more easily view the tab groups you need to access.

Switch to the opened tab

When entering the page title in the address bar of Chrome for Android, if the tab is already open, you will see a suggestion to switch to it.

Find tabs faster with tag preview

You can hover over the label and quickly view the thumbnail preview of the page. This feature is currently in the Chrome beta version.

Fill in and save the PDF in Chrome

In the next few weeks, users will be able to fill out PDF forms directly from Chrome and save them with the input.

URL sharing is easier

Improved URL sharing for Android users, you can quickly copy links, send them to Chrome on other devices, and send links through other applications. You can also print the page or generate a QR code for scanning or downloading.

This new QR code feature will also be launched in the desktop version of Chrome and can be accessed from the new QR icon in the Chrome address bar.
