AUO launches an 85-inch 4K panel that supports 240Hz refresh rate

With the changes in people’s living environment and changes in the demand for access devices, the boundaries between monitors and TVs seem to be less clear than before. For some users who rent a house or have a small living space, they may choose to buy a large-screen monitor that supports 2K or 4K resolution to connect to the PC and game console at the same time. Some users with larger space may wish to have a large-screen TV whose performance can meet the needs of joining PC games.

In the past year, manufacturers have released a lot of 120Hz refresh rate monitors or TVs equipped with an HDMI 2.1 interface. For TV, this seems to be enough, but for high refresh rate gaming monitors, this is just a basic requirement and cannot meet the needs of all users. According to DigiTimes, AU Optronics (AUO) announced the launch of an 85-inch 4K panel that will support a 240Hz refresh rate and DCI-P3 color gamut up to 96%, and with a low-reflection coating, its anti-reflection technology can reduce glare interference to the panel, I believe this panel can meet the needs of large-screen gamers.

For specifications such as 4K@240Hz, at this stage, apart from gamers as super-large screen gaming screens, there seems to be no other display content, and products using this panel should not be too friendly in terms of price. The current display content seems to lag far behind the display itself in terms of the development of specifications. For live broadcasts, movies, TV series, or TV shows, the frame rate is still generally low. In fact, a high frame rate can improve the viewing experience of movies or sports events.

This panel of AU Optronics will not be put into the market so quickly, and it may take a long time to wait.
