ASUS B660 motherboard label information leaked

Intel will launch more 12th-generation Core series processors early next year. There will be a variety of models covering the low and mid-end, and there will be a more affordable 600 series chipset, coupled with DDR4 memory, which will be more friendly to ordinary users. Like the Core i5-12400 with B660 motherboard and DDR4 memory, I believe it is the combination that many users consider first.

According to VideoCardz, a leaked photo of the ASUS PRIME B660-PLUS D4 motherboard shows that some Intel B660 motherboards may not support PCIe 5.0. Since the PCIe 5.0 channel of the Alder Lake processor is directly connected to the CPU, rather than through the chipset, it may be a bit surprising if the B660 motherboard does not support PCIe 5.0 at all. On the other hand, the B660 chipset is geared towards the mainstream market and is generally equipped with mid-range CPUs. Users who choose the LGA 1700 platform are unlikely to need devices that support PCIe 5.0. Even if the B660 motherboard does not support PCIe 5.0, it does not seem to have any impact.

Between Z690 and B660, Intel will also launch the H670 chipset. According to Intel’s past positioning and practices for this series of chipsets, at least the H670 chipset should maintain support for the PCIe 5.0 specification. For the mid-range B660 and the low-end H610, given that consumer devices are still in the transition period from PCIe 3.0 to PCIe 4.0, they will rely more on devices based on the PCIe 4.0 specification.
In addition, there are some questions regarding memory. The leaked photos this time show that this motherboard of ASUS supports DDR4 memory. It is not clear whether the B660 motherboards of major manufacturers will use DDR4 memory models as their main products. Because of the supply and price of DDR5 memory, it is not easy to promote it on mainstream platforms at this stage. However, among the B660 motherboard models leaked by motherboard and heat sink manufacturers, it seems that there are not many models equipped with DDR4 memory.
