Apple will solve the privacy problems of Airtags through more improvements

Earlier, Apple launched the Airtags tracker, which can be tracked based on a mesh network. This tracker can report its position through a mesh network interconnection.

The so-called mesh network means that Apple devices connect to each other through Bluetooth or other wireless technologies to transfer necessary information from one device to another.

In this process, there may be situations where the location is reported online, but this Bluetooth mesh network can also operate without the Internet at all.

And Apple’s Airtags is run by accessing a mesh network, so its accuracy is actually very dependent on whether there are users around using Apple products.

Some users complained that Airtags could not be used in basement garages with low personnel activities, and some users worried that they would be tracked by being quietly put on the tracker.

After all, this kind of tracker is not too big. If it is quietly left in a car or bag and it is not easy to find, then the victim may not find that he is being tracked.

In response to this issue, Apple has considered this issue before releasing the tracker, so if the tracker is separated from the owner for more than three days, it will automatically issue an audible alert.

At the same time, Apple will remind the victim through the iPhone that the tracker has been with them for a period of time, but obviously, it can be tracked for a long time in three days.

And if the user is using Android, it may not be able to get Apple’s reminder, so the attacker can damage the Airtags speaker to avoid the alarm.

A few months after the release, Apple has decided to adjust the related functions and reminders of the Airtags tracker in response to user feedback on these issues and user concerns.

The first is that if the tracker is separated from its owner for more than 8 hours, the tracker will issue an alert at random times within the next 16 hours.

This can prevent the victim from being tracked by the attacker for as long as three days before discovering the anomaly. At the same time, Apple will remind the user through the mobile phone during the alarm period.

Secondly, considering that Android users cannot receive Apple’s reminders, Apple will develop a detection program for Android users, and after installation, they can detect whether they are being tracked. Therefore, this requires Android users to actively install this detection program.

Finally, Apple also promised to analyze based on related usage to avoid potential hazards, and actively adjust if other problems are found in the future.
