Apple may provide a simplified version of macOS for the M2 iPad Pro

Recently, Apple’s M2 version of the iPad Pro is directly on the official website. It is equipped with the latest self-developed chip M2, supports a new Apple Pencil hovering experience and extremely fast wireless connection, and is equipped with a first-class mobile device display, pro-level camera, Face ID, Thunderbolt port, and four-speaker audio system.

For many people, the new iPad Pro is just a regular upgrade of the previous M1 version, and its configuration and performance are excessive for most users, and it is a bit overkill to perform the same tasks as other iPad models. However, Twitter user @MajinBuOfficial recently revealed that the internal test name of Apple’s macOS 14 is “Mendocino”, which will be launched in 2023, and a simplified version of macOS is specially adapted for the new iPad Pro. The so-called simplified version is rumored to mean the removal of functional modules developed for traditional Mac models.

It is said that in order to have a better touch control experience, the simplified version of macOS for the M2 iPad Pro has a 25% scaled UI, and some apps will be optimized for touch screens and can be downloaded and installed from the iPadOS app store instead of the Mac app store. It’s a little strange that this simplified version of macOS is only suitable for the M2 version of the iPad Pro and not the M1 version of the iPad Pro. I don’t know if it is the reason for the development progress or Apple‘s strategy to highlight the advantages of the M2 model.
For a long time, people have hoped that tablet computers can have higher productivity. The iPad Pro models equipped with M-series self-developed chips are already close to the MacBook models in performance. Replacing iPadOS with macOS may unlock more potential at the fastest speed.
