Apple may equip the full range of iPhone 13 with sensor-shift OIS function
Japan’s Mitsumi and the Alps are currently Apple’s main suppliers of iPhone camera VCM modules, and the former such as Zhonglan Electronic Technology, JCT Electronics, and GYZ Electronic Technology is increasing contract production orders in the supply chain. In the first half of this year, these manufacturers mainly shipped components for Android phones, but in the second half of the year, they will be overtaken by iPhones.
According to DigiTimes, the reason for this situation is that Apple intends to use the sensor-shift OIS function on the iPhone 13 series phones launched this year, which has led to a significant increase in shipments. Relevant supply chain manufacturers were told to increase production capacity by 30%-40% to meet the strong demand for iPhone 13 series phones. However, this news also has another statement, that is, the iPhone 13 models with sensor-shift OIS function are limited to “professional” models, that is, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max models.
At present, Apple only uses the sensor-shift OIS function on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Compared with the commonly used lens anti-shift function, the related module of the sensor-shift OIS function is smaller and faster. In addition, it is reported that Apple will also add an auto-focus function to the new generation of iPhone phones. Supply chain-related manufacturers in China are expected to have a steady increase in shipments before November this year.
Industry insiders pointed out that once Apple expands the use of sensor-shift OIS function on the iPhone 13 series models, the demand for VCM modules supporting this technology will increase three to four times.
