Apple launched a new Magic Keyboard with Touch ID recognition
On the new 24-inch iMac launched by Apple this year, a set of new versions of Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Mouse, among them, the keyboard can choose to have a Touch ID fingerprint reader, which is very convenient to unlock Mac computers. But previously it could only be selected when buying an iMac. Until now, Apple has only opened separate purchases.
Although it is a new model, in fact, these Magic series peripherals have not changed much. Except that Trackpad conforms to Apple’s new design style and becomes rounded corners, Magic Mouse hardly sees any changes. The Magic Keyboard has the same button layout. In particular, the arrow keys on the keyboard have not been changed to the inverted T layout since the 16-inch MacBook Pro, but now the version with Touch is provided.
Currently, there are two types of Magic Keyboard, compact and full layout, but the Magic Keyboard with numeric keyboard is a bit weird. Its Touch ID position is kept in the middle, and you may not find it for a while when you first get started. You need to get used to it. This is not as conspicuous as the compact version in the upper right corner.
In addition, although the Magic keyboard and mouse included with the 24-inch iMac have a variety of color options, the Magic series peripherals that are sold separately this time only have white and silver color options. However, the attached USB-C to Lightning charging cable is also braided, so the weird situation of peeling after being used for a long time shouldn’t happen again.
Apple’s new Magic series of keyboards, mice, and touchpads have no price increase. The most expensive Touch ID version of Magic Keyboard is only $179. In addition to supporting Mac computers, they can also be used on iPad and iPhone. If you really need it, only Magic Keyboard with Touch ID only supports Mac computers equipped with Apple Silicon. Although some Intel versions of Macs also have T2 security chips, they cannot be supported, so iPad and older Mac users should think to buy.
