Apple is researching “true” wireless charging technology

As early as September 2017, Apple announced an AirPower that can wirelessly charge iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods at the same time. However, the actual working temperature of AirPower is too high, which caused Apple to quietly delete the product introduction from the official website, and never let it go. However, in recent years, there have been rumors that Apple has not given up AirPower. Recently, there are new reports that Apple is researching “true” wireless charging technology, which is likely to make AirPower officially listed.

Currently, popular wireless charging on the market, whether it is the standard Qi or Apple Magsafe, is not really “wireless” charging, because they both require the device to keep close contact with the charger. The previous AirPower has to be on a charging board and wirelessly charge devices that require different power at the same time, which brings huge heat and interference. Apple can’t be solved smoothly. Although Apple introduced a small accessory that can charge iPhone and Apple Watch at the same time, it’s just a charger with two charging pads. It is too far from the concept of AirPower, and Apple’s newly developed “true” wireless charging is expected to solve these unsolvable problems on AirPower, but the original report also expressed uncertainty as to whether Apple will continue to use the AirPower name.

In addition, this report also mentioned that Apple may add reverse wireless charging technology to the iPad that the company was exploring the idea of developing an AirPower successor and that it was also (separately) investigating “alternative wireless charging methods that can work over greater distances than an inductive connection.”
