Apple fined 10 million euros by Italian regulators for false advertising on iPhone
In the early years, Apple was fined 10 million euros by Italian regulators for the speed-down problem in the iOS system, and now it has been fined 10 million euros for false propaganda, Reuters reports.
The reason for the fine was that the Italian regulator determined that Apple had misleading business practices in the iPhone series waterproof advertisements and therefore violated local regulations.
Regulators claim that Apple’s sales practices are aggressive and misleading, especially the content that Apple advertises does not match the content it actually provides.
Multiple iPhone series waterproof advertisements released by Apple advertise that these devices are waterproof, but they did not clearly state that they are waterproof only in certain circumstances.
That is to say, Apple should clearly state under which conditions it is waterproof and under which conditions it is not. If it does not clearly state, it is misleading consumers.
In addition, Apple also stated that the iPhone’s warranty does not include liquid damage, which means that it will not be guaranteed if water enters.
The Italian regulatory agency believes that Apple’s behavior is a serious deception of consumers. Apple did not provide corresponding services when the user’s device was really flooded. For this reason, the regulator issued a fine of 10 million euros to Apple and required Apple to improve the violations.
However, Apple has not yet issued a statement on this matter. Usually, Apple will react fiercely when encountering such incidents and may appeal to cancel the huge fine.
