Apple cuts iPhone 14 Plus production due to weak demand

Apple iPhone 14 Plus has been on sale for some time now, and in this generation of iPhones, the previous 5.4-inch mini model has been replaced by this 6.7-inch model. However, Apple was clearly not happy with the market’s response.
According to The Information, half a month after the iPhone 14 Plus went on sale, Apple notified a Chinese manufacturer in the supply chain to stop producing components for the iPhone 14 Plus. It’s unclear whether Apple’s move is temporary and whether there are plans to resume production in the future. Given the positioning of the iPhone 14 Plus, the problem appears to be elsewhere, not related to the product itself. It is reported that compared with the same period last year, the size of the smartphone market shrank by 9% in the third quarter of this year.

At present, global inflation is severe, coupled with unstable macroeconomic factors, and users in many countries and regions have given up upgrading smartphones. Some market research institutes said that in the next six to nine months, the demand in the smartphone market will remain weak, which will affect the sales of the iPhone 14 Plus more or less. In fact, the sales of the iPhone 14 are not very good. On the plus side, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are doing just fine, which may have something to do with the larger upgrades on this model.

The iPhone 14 Plus has a larger display, an improved battery, an upgraded camera system, etc. According to past experience, it should well meet the needs of the market, but from the current situation, Apple’s strategy is not successful.
