Apple confirmed that Jony Ive was involved in the design of the new iMac

In the past few years, I hope Apple can redesign the iMac. And at this year’s spring new product launch, Apple announced the launch of a new iMac with an M1 chip. It uses a new mold with a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display, which is more compact and thinner and offers 7 colors, namely green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver.

Wired recently reported that this product is also inseparable from the contribution of Jony Ive, who participated in it in a certain capacity. Apple officially confirmed that Jony Ive participated in the development of the 2021 iMac, but did not provide a specific time point. A new product project is a long process from planning to sales. It is not surprising that Jony Ive participated as the chief designer during his tenure at Apple.

More interestingly, although Apple did not confirm or deny whether Jony Ive participated in the project through his company LoveFrom after leaving the company. However, Jony Ive said in an interview with the Financial Times in the early days of founding LoveFrom that Apple was the company’s first customer.

During his tenure at Apple, Jony Ive’s design was very iconic. He participated in the design of Apple’s iPod, iPhone, iPad, Macbook, and a series of other products, allowing Apple to surpass its competitors in terms of aesthetics. In 2019, the former Apple chief designer announced that he would leave Apple and set up a company called LoveFrom. Last year, he also welcomed big customers like Airbnb.

In any case, the new iMac in 2021 is a very good product, breaking the conventional design that has been used for many years. I believe Jony Ive will be proud of it.
