AMD Instinct MI300 will still use MCM packaging technology
Previously, Coelacanth’s Dream submitted information on Github and calculated the possible configuration specifications of the GPU code-named Aldebaran’s CDNA 2 architecture based on the code. Combined with earlier information, the number of CUs for each computing module of the Instinct MI200 computing card should be 128, of which 110 will be turned on, and then through MCM (Multi-Chip-Module) packaging technology, an Instinct MI200 computing card will be configured with 220 CUs. Of course, it is also possible to adopt a brand-new architecture design. The number of open CUs for each computing module is 55, and the entire computing card is configured with 110 CUs.
According to AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su’s speech at the 49th Global Technology, Media, and Communications Conference held by JPMorgan Chase in May this year, new products based on the CDNA 2 architecture will be launched within this year. In addition to MCM packaging technology, the new generation of products will also adopt the next generation of Infinity Fabric bus technology, and support the third generation of AMD Infinity architecture, allowing up to 8 channels of the same GPU to be connected to Exascale.
The Instinct MI200 computing card has not yet appeared, but the Instinct MI300 computing card is already on the way. According to Twitter user @Kepler_L2, the scale of Instinct MI300 computing card GPU will be doubled on the basis of Instinct MI200 computing card. AMD will still use the MCM packaging technology and will integrate more computing modules. The GPU of the CDNA 3 architecture may have four computing modules. It is not clear yet the GPU code name of the Instinct MI300 computing card, and it should also adopt the name of the giant planet.
